Untraditional Letterforms Magazine Spread

This project began as an exploration of the letterforms hidden in everyday life. Over the course of the semester, I photographed found objects that resembled every letter of the alphabet in both uppercase and lowercase, using my environment as the source material for an experimental typeface. I organized, batch-resized, and edited all images for print, creating contact sheets and refining each letterform through color correction, cropping, and isolation in full color and grayscale. Alongside the visual work, I wrote an editorial essay reflecting on the world I moved through during the semester, developing a cohesive theme, headline, subheads, breakout quote, and a list of potential typeface names.

The final outcome consists of two designed pieces: an editorial magazine spread and a type specimen chart. The editorial was created as a two-page, letter-sized spread using a 12-column grid in InDesign, incorporating my experimental letterforms with structured typography and narrative content. The specimen chart was designed as an 11×17” grayscale poster showcasing the complete uppercase and lowercase alphabet, the typeface name, and a brief description. Both pieces were prepared for print and presentation, demonstrating my process from observation and concept development through experimental typography, editorial layout, and final production
